A lot of people recommend reading batman: the killing joke which is a one shot and not part of the new 52 or the original series. Some recommend batman: year one. What I wanted to know is, how is the best way to read the batman comics, is it like manga where I start at the beginning of new 52 and continue on from there to get the cannon story only?
As a whole, or for individual series? For the New 52, I'd recommend reading Flashpoint. It's the event that triggers Prime Earth (the reality The New 52 and Rebirth are set in). After that, just pick a series and read the first trade. If you follow the numbers, you should be able to stay on track.
